About TACA

3 questions
What size businesses do you work with?

Sole traders, contractors, small to medium businesses, family businesses, rental property owners, and Charitable Trusts. Most of our clients turnover between $80K and $5M annually.

If you are smaller or larger than that range, we will tell you honestly whether we are the right fit.

Who is on the team?

Chelsea Jensen (Director, Chartered Accountant), Cherry Nicholson, and Veronica Waiari. Three Tauranga accountants who handle your work directly. You will not be passed off to a junior.

More on the About page.

Where are you based?

69 Gargan Road, Tauriko, Tauranga. We meet clients in person at the office, or via Zoom and phone for clients further afield. Tauriko is on the western side of Tauranga, easy access from State Highway 29.

Pricing & Packages

5 questions
Do you offer fixed monthly pricing?

Yes. All three TACA packages are fixed monthly fees, billed by direct debit. Your Xero subscription is included. No surprise invoices at year end.

What is included in your monthly fee?

Annual financial statements, income tax return preparation and filing, tax management and reminders, Xero subscription, annual Companies Office return, and unlimited phone, text, and email support throughout the year.

Growth and Comprehensive tiers add GST returns, auditor coordination, bookkeeping, and management reporting. Full breakdown on the Pricing page.

What is NOT included?

Bookkeeping (data entry of supplier invoices and bank reconciliation) is only included in the Comprehensive tier. Payroll and PAYE filing are an add-on or via integrations like Smartly. We are not auditors, but we coordinate with your auditor and prepare working papers.

Do I sign a contract?

Yes, a standard engagement letter that outlines scope, fee, and responsibilities. There is no fixed-term lock-in. You can leave at any time, we just ask for fair notice.

Can I switch packages?

Yes. You can step up or down at any review point. We move you to the package that actually matches the work you need.

Tax & GST

4 questions
When do I need to register for GST?

You must register for GST if your turnover exceeds (or is expected to exceed) $60,000 in any rolling 12-month period. You can also register voluntarily below that threshold.

Whether voluntary registration is the right call depends on your customers and supplier mix. Try the GST Calculator to play with the numbers, or book a chat.

How often do you file GST returns?

Most clients file two-monthly. Smaller businesses or those with seasonal patterns sometimes file six-monthly. Larger businesses or those with strong cashflow needs may file monthly.

We help you pick the right frequency at registration.

What is included in your tax management service?

We track your provisional tax instalments, terminal tax, and any one-off IRD obligations. You get a reminder before each due date with the exact amount and how to pay. If your year is shaping up differently than estimated, we re-forecast so you do not over- or underpay.

What happens if I miss a tax deadline?

IRD applies late filing and late payment penalties plus use-of-money interest. We handle deadline tracking specifically to prevent this. If you do miss one (which happens), we help you communicate with IRD and apply for any available remissions.

Working Together

5 questions
Can you help me set up a new business?

Yes. The Ignition package is built for this. We help you choose a structure (sole trader, partnership, company, trust), register with IRD, set up Xero, and walk through your first year of obligations.

There is also a free Business Startup guide on the site.

What support can I expect throughout the year?

Unlimited phone, text, and email. Quick questions are answered the same business day. Bigger questions get a dedicated call or meeting.

Quarterly check-ins are standard for Growth and Comprehensive clients. Ignition clients get one mid-year check-in plus the year-end review.

Can you work with businesses outside Tauranga?

Yes. Most of our communication is digital anyway. We have clients across the Bay of Plenty, Waikato, and further afield. Zoom replaces the in-person meeting for clients who cannot make it to Tauriko.

Do you help with payroll and PAYE?

Payroll is an add-on, not part of the standard packages. We can either run payroll for you or set you up with a system like Smartly that handles payday filing automatically.

Either way we make sure PAYE, KiwiSaver, and holiday pay are handled correctly.

How do I switch to TACA?

Book a chat. We will check the fit, send an engagement letter, and contact your existing accountant for handover. Most switches happen at year end so we can pick up cleanly, but a mid-year switch is workable too.

Privacy & Data

2 questions
How do you handle my financial information?

Your data lives in Xero, which is encrypted in transit and at rest and held within Australia or New Zealand. Our internal systems are access-controlled and audit-logged.

We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand professional confidentiality standards. Full detail on the Privacy page.

Can you communicate via Slack, Teams, or other tools?

Phone, email, text, and Zoom are our defaults because they are the most reliable for record-keeping. We can do Teams or Slack if your business uses those internally, but anything substantive ends up summarised in email so we both have a written trail.
